How to choose a provider and pay for care

Using Your Plan

Getting the care you need should be simple and stress-free. Follow these three easy steps to find a provider and pay for your care:

Step 1: Before your appointment

Find a provider

Use the UHC Global app or myuhc.com to search for a provider near you. These are providers who have a direct billing agreement with us, so they will confirm your benefits and will bill us directly for reimbursement. You will be responsible for any cost share according to your plan.

You can also choose a Virtual Visit with a qualified medical provider, available 24/7 for non-emergency conditions

Make your appointment

  1. Schedule your appointment
  2. Share your UnitedHealthcare Global ID card information with the provider
  3. Ask if the provider needs a guarantee of payment (GOP)

When possible, request the GOP at least 24-48 hours before your appointment to ensure timely coordination.

Request a GOP

If required, you have three options:

  1. Ask the provider to request a GOP by contacting UnitedHealthcare Global using the phone number or email on your ID card.
  2. Request a GOP yourself by logging in to myuhc.com, selecting 'View Global', and clicking 'Arrange Payment to Provider'.
  3. Email UnitedHealthcare Global to request a GOP, we’ll confirm specifics via secure email.

Step 2: At your appointment

  1. Show your UnitedHealthcare Global ID card
  2. Confirm that the GOP was received, if one was requested
  3. Use your Care Card to pay for qualified medical expenses if the provider does not accept a GOP
If the Care Card is not accepted, you may need to pay for your care at the time of service. You can submit a claim for reimbursement after your appointment.

Step 3: After your appointment

Submit a claim via myuhc.com or the UHC Global app if you paid for covered medical expenses.

  • Always ask for a copy of your receipt and itemized invoice
  • Most claims are processed within 14 business days. Once approved, payments usually take up to seven more business days, depending on your payment method and bank
